Dooars is the gateway to the stunning Eastern Himalayas and mesmerizing Bhutan. Flora Fauna

Dooars is known for its highly rich diversified flora and fauna. This region is dominated by Moist Deciduous Forests. In Gorumara and Jaldapara, grassland areas are developed especially for One Horned Rhinos. The national parks come under the Indo-Malaya ecozone. So there are two types of forest found here; one is Terai - Dooars Savannah and grasslands and another one is Moist Deciduous Forest. The most common and important trees are Sal, Shirish, Shimul, Teak, Khair, Jarul, Chilouni, etc.

Flora

Apart from the one-horned rhino, Gorumara National Park boasts of other animals like Asiatic Elephants, Indian Gaur, Sloth beer, Wild boar, Chital, Samber deer, Barking deer, Hog deer, etc. The forest also has twenty-two species of reptiles - such as the Indian Python, King Kobra, and other venomous and non-venomous snakes, seven species of Turtles, twenty-seven species of Fishes, and other macrofauna. The diversified bird species are the flying gems of this region! Major birds are seen here like Pheasants, Minivets, Woodpeckers, Hornbills, Coucals, Maynas, Cuckoos, River Lapwings, Wagtails, Flycatchers, Shrikes, Swifts, Doves, and starlings. In winter, various migratory birds such as Brahminyduck, Ferruginous ducks, Red Crested Pochards, and many more migrate over here from Russia and Europe. Some of the beauties of this region are Long Tailed Minivet, Yuhina, Stripe-throated Yuhina, Whiskered Yuhina, Greater Rufous-headed Parrotbill, Red-tailed Minla, Himalayan Cutia, Great Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Oriental White-Eye, Common Teal, Lesser Whistling Teal, Northern Shoveler, Bronze-winged Jacana, Collared Falconet, Dollar Bird, Golden Headed Black Finch, Rufous-throated Partridge, Crimson-Sunbird, Flameback Woodpecker, Blue-throated Barbet, Hodgson's Hawk Cuckoo, Lesser Cuckoo, Brown Wood Owl, Ashy Wood Swallow, Yellow Footed Green Pigeon, etc.

Hornbills are the majorly important birds of this region. Out of the 9 species of Hornbills in India, 4 types are found in Dooars; the Great Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, and Rufous-necked Hornbill. The Great Hornbill is the largest among Asian hornbills.
